Serena Mulder is a natural health practitioner, specialising in Ayurveda and lives between the Gold Coast and Sydney Australia. She holds the distinction of being the only Chopra Certified Ayurvedic instructor in Australia and holds the privilege of being personally trained by Deepak Chopra himself.
Serena had a traumatic experience growing up, beginning with her parents divorce when she was only 3 years old, after which she lived with a horrendously abusive father until the age of five.
Her father’s drinking habit led him to becoming physically abusive towards her, so Serena’s mother left South Africa and flew to Australia. Serena’s mother was an alcoholic and abusive as well. She would often enter the room drunk, just as Serena, had fallen asleep and begin screaming, swearing and even hitting her.
With no family support, Serena learned very early in life to stand on her own two feet. She became the adult in the relationship as her mother’s health declined. She was also bullied at school and always felt “different” from the other kids, not only because she was a foot taller than all of them!
Things didn’t seem to get any better. Serena’s formative years were tumultuous to say the least. She turned to drugs to escape from what was going on around her and even got involved with drug dealers. There were times when she wanted to kill herself.
If that isn’t shocking enough there was worse to follow. Her first serious relationship was with a married man with two children she met at a nightclub in Fortitude Valley at the impressionable age of 19 years. He left his wife and Serena became an instant mother to a 2 and 4 year old. Her partner went bankrupt and Serena helped him out of a messy situation.
Soon after, they started a software development business together and in less than 5 years it was turning over a million dollars with clients from all over the world.
This was Serena’s first taste of success. The business was eventually sold for millions of dollars but the relationship didn’t survive.
The turnaround in Serena’s life came after she ended her relationship with her former partner. Serena let go of everything and left it up to the universe to decide her fate. It was at that moment she felt completely at peace.
She also got off the drugs and stopped drinking alcohol. She began to study personal development and got her qualifications in finance and financial planning despite being told she was a failure by her mother and that she would never amount to anything.
The lesson Serena learned from her experiences was how a human survives in times of adversity and she became an “expert” at survival and overcoming adversity. She acquired the skills to help others live up to their potential but more importantly how to overcome adversity and come out the other side not only alive but the best version of themselves.
In her own words, “Going through perceived challenges needs to be seen as an opportunity to stretch ourselves and grow and through those experiences, we become who we are meant to be and really see what we are capable of.”
In a quest to search for natural solutions to achieving peak health and wellness – both for the body and the mind. Serena spent tens of thousands of dollars trying to find cures for her health issues only to realise she had the answers inside her all along – as does everyone else.
This was what led her to the Chopra Center, where she learned about integrating Ayurveda into my life and also became a Certified Instructor.
What’s special about Ayurveda is that it is able to identify health issues long before they physically manifest themselves in the body. This helps to prevent a serious issue or makes it easier to reverse as it is picked up much earlier.
There is no other healthcare system in the world like Ayurveda. The World Health Organisation lists Ayurveda as “The most ancient, scientific, holistic and complete system of healthcare in the world.”
More than a mere system of treating an illness, Ayurveda is a science of life (Ayur = life,Veda = science or knowledge). It offers a body of wisdom designed to help people stay vital while realizing their full human potential. Providing guidelines on ideal daily and seasonal routines, diet, behaviour and the proper use of our senses, Ayurveda reminds us that health is the balanced and dynamic integration between our environment, body, mind, and spirit.
Ayurveda saved Serena’s life and she got the best training in the world so that she could teach it to others and assist them in overcoming health challenges as well. Ayurveda is also the only completely holistic health care system in the world that looks at balance in body, mind and spirit and I believe this is the key to optimal health.
Using the knowledge she acquired, Serena developed an online program and Ayurvedic assessment which is the most comprehensive in the world.
The Perfect Health Program which Serena now teaches has been developed by Dr’s Deepak Chopra and David Simon. It represents the integration between the principles of modern science and insights from the world’s timeless wisdom traditions.
What really sets Serena apart is the ability to combine her skills as a successful business owner with what she now knows about health and wellness to help individuals live to their maximum potential.
